Sault Ste. Marie gas stations run low amid Mackinac Bridge closures and ice storm

SAULT STE. MARIE — Sault Ste. Marie area gas stations are running low on gas, or have completely run out, because of on-again, off-again Mackinac Bridge falling ice closures and the ice storm in northern lower Michigan.

Several gas stations around the Soo are completely out of gas, or are offering premium gas until that runs out.

Much of the fuel is transported from the Lower Peninsula and with the power outages and the bridge closures, it’s just a waiting game for the area to receive gas shipments.

As of noon Wednesday, one full-service gas station, Super-Flite, had 1,500 gallons left in their 30,000 gallon tanks.

Also Wednesday, Circle-K gas stations ran out of gas and Sault Area Schools used Super-Flite to fill up their busses.

“I’m glad we’re here with full service. We are helping out the community and that.  It’s nice to be here to help out our Sault Schools and to get kids to school, even more so important is our emergency personnel,” said Super-Flite Attendant Manton Karr.

We are also told that Soo City Police, along with Soo Tribal Police, also used Super-Flite to fill up.

They hoped to get a fuel delivery Thursday.
