TRAVERSE CITY — Work on a popular pedestrian bridge in Traverse City has been delayed.
The section of the Civic Center Walking Track was supposed to undergo construction starting March 24. A study was done back in 2022 to determine the condition of the bridge.
Due to the frost laws in place, the crane needed to replace that walkway is currently unavailable.
“This project involves removing the bridge and replacing the bridge with a similar structure, replacing the entire walking path,” Grand Traverse County Parks and Recreation Director John Chase said. “A new service on the walking path. We’re adding a parallel running path to the track as well. We’ve actually staked that out this week and we’ve asked the members of the TC Track Club to come out, give it a run and tell us what they think of that.”
Work will begin once a proper thaw takes place.
The project is expected to be completed mid-summer 2025.
