Traverse City’s State Theatre continues free spring break movie tradition

TRAVERSE CITY — One of Traverse City’s favorite spring break traditions kicked off Friday.

For the better part of 16 years, The State Theatre has been showing free movies during spring break.

This year’s movie selection takes theater goers to countries around the world, with films showcasing France, China, the UK and even Fairytale Land.

The showings start every day at 10 AM with a free kids’ movie followed by a variety of new and classic movies.

The State Theatre’s Executive Director, Angie Forton, says it’s a great activity for any staycation.

“It is absolutely a labor of love,” she said. “There are many people in our community who are unable to travel. You know, they don’t have the money, they don’t have the means. They can’t get away. And so we want to create, beautiful memories, fantastic films, things for kids to do. It’s not just a movie. It’s entertainment.”

The free screenings started Friday, March 21 and will run through March 27.
