Nicholas Schram, driver accused of killing Sam DeKuiper, pleads guilty

TRAVERSE CITY — The driver accused of killing a Traverse City man in a car crash last year, has pleaded guilty to reckless driving. Nicholas Schram, from Imlay City, was involved in a crash last May that killed 22-year-old Sam Dekuiper from Grawn. DeKuiper was a well-known athlete at Traverse City West and Lawrence Technological University.

Schram, originally was faced with 5 charges. 1 count of reckless driving causing death and 4 counts of reckless driving causing injury.

A plea deal from prosecutors reduced his charges to 2 counts of reckless driving causing injury.

Schram, pled guilty to both counts in the Grand Traverse County Court on March 20th.

Nicholas Schram will be sentenced on May 16th.
