Alanson man arrested for methamphetamine and cocaine possession

Defendant now has multiple offenses on record

OTSEGO COUNTY — On March 7, Straits Area Narcotics Enforcement (SANE), with the assistance of the Michigan State Police with the Gaylord Post, Otsego County Sheriff’s Office and the Gaylord Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on I-75 Highway in Otsego County.

The subsequent investigation led to the discovery of approximately 51 grams of methamphetamine, 17 grams of cocaine, 11 grams of crack cocaine and suboxone hidden inside the vehicle.

Joseph James Cooper, a 39-year-old man from Alanson, was arrested and lodged in the Otsego County Jail. Cooper was arraigned on March 10 in the 87-A District Court in Otsego County on the following charges:

  • One count of Controlled substance - Delivery/manufacture of methamphetamine
  • One count of controlled substance - Delivery/manufacture cocaine, heroin or another narcotic
  • One count of Controlled Substance - Maintaining a drug house
  • One count of driving while license suspended/revoked
  • Habitual offender - second/subsequent and fourth offense notices

He was given a $25,000 cash or surety bond. His next scheduled court appearance is at 10:15 a.m. on March 20.
