Calling all anglers! The International Fly-Fishing Festival returns to Manistee this weekend.
This is the second year of the event, with tickets on sale for this Saturday and Sunday.
Executive director of the Manistee County Tourism Authority, Sammie Lukaskiewicz said the film festival was being presented by the Manistee County Tourism Authority and John Gouker Fly Fishing.
The festival at the Vogue Theatre showcases seven short films from professional filmmakers from all over the world.
Lukaskiewicz said the county is known for its fly-fishing lakes, rivers, and stream and with the Steelhead starting to run in March, it’s the perfect time for the film festival.
“The central narrative really is about fly fishing, but it’s not simply, hey, here’s a fly. You’re going to hook it to this reel and rod and fish. There are stories among fly fisherman that bring out, like, this passion about the fly fishing itself. And to be able to see some of these exotic locations where fly fishing takes place,” said Lukaskiewicz.
Tickets to the film festival are $25 per person and include popcorn and a drink.
All seven films are shown one after the other and will take a few hours.
All proceeds from film tickets will benefit the Little Manistee Watershed Conservation Council and the Vogue Theatre.
