TRAVERSE CITY - Cherry Capital Airport is seeing record numbers of travelers causing overflow in their parking before the spring break season.
There are 1,300 spaces for travelers and on February 21st the airport reported 1,500 vehicles on the campus. The overflow procedure, which is typically saved for March, was put into place early.
They plan to have even more overflow parking when the spring break travelers arrive.
“This is a great issue to have, but how are we going to solve in the future?” Says Cherry Capital Airport CEO Kevin Klein. “And so the board has already undertaken, the contracts for a, parking study. and so we’ve kicked that off.”
The airport is also exploring short term solutions to get them through the upcoming tourist season.
