Northern Michigan youth arts nonprofit holding fundraiser to stay afloat

A local nonprofit is looking for more financial help to keep their organization going.

Cadillac’s Up North Arts has been serving the community since 2017, promoting the arts and arts education through classes and workshops.

The non-profit’s executive director, Heath Urbaniak said art education was lacking in the Cadillac area because of school budget cuts and other art centers being further away, in places like Traverse City, Interlochen, and Evart.

He said they’ve been operating through the years with the generosity of smaller donors and are in need of more support.

They are holding a fundraiser for sponsorship through the end of the month to raise $10,000.

“At the end of the day, we are a nonprofit art center that’s been kind of shoestring budget for a number of years. And we want to be more, we want to do more. We want to be around,” said Urbaniak.

Up North Arts said they’re trying to expand and offer more programming.

Urbaniak also said they’re trying to add an early childhood sensory education program with the help of a local woodworker.
