GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY - The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday, Feb. 18, that a man has been arrested in connection with a cold case from 1989.

In the late afternoon of Thursday, April 27, 1989, the body of a female homicide victim was discovered in Hoosier Valley. The victim was soon identified as Linda Marie Meteer, 41, of the Traverse City area. Meteer was a mother of five children.
In 1989, an investigative task force consisting of officers from the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office, Traverse City Police Department and Michigan State Police was formed and began investigating the homicide. The task force worked for many years attempting to identify and charge a suspect but was unsuccessful.
The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office has continued throughout the years to investigate the murder.
On Feb. 18, the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office was able to make an arrest in the case. A 63-year-old Leelanau County man was arrested for open murder related to the 1989 death of Meteer.
