Cadillac City Council meets for first time since Mayor Carla Filkins resigns

The Cadillac city council is meeting for the first time Tuesday since the resignation of Cadillac’s mayor, Carla Filkins.

Filkins stepped down last Wednesday, citing personal reasons in her resignation letter.

On top of that, the city’s mayor pro Tem Tiya Schippers will not be at Tuesday’s meeting.

Schippers tells nine and ten news that she is currently out of state, recovering from an accident.

City manager Marcus Peccia said they will pick someone else on the council to act as mayor.

Peccia said the agenda includes accepting Filkins’ resignation, an update on the PFAS contamination, and discussing a public hearing for rezoning an AIRBNB known as ‘Orange Cadillac’.

“I don’t know how that change will impact our operations or organization. Regardless of who’s in the role of leadership, you know, council and staff, we all have jobs to do. And part of that is to work together. And, you know, while at times it’s certainly stressful, I would like to just still acknowledge that even in hard times, we still work to get business done,” said Peccia.

Cadillac’s City Council meetings usually happen on Mondays but was pushed back this week because of President’s Day.
