TRAVERSE CITY - We now know how the construction of the new round-a-bout on M-72 and M-22 in TRAVERSE CITY will be handled. In a public comment session on Tuesday. MDOT said the roadway will be open during the construction.
It will be built one side at a time, allowing for traffic to go through. There will also be improvements for pedestrians and bicyclists with a sidewalk and pathways on both sides for so you can get around without driving a car.
The construction will be stretched over 2 miles starting at Division Street and ending at Cherry Bend Road. MDOT Spokesman James Lake says the new round-a-bout will be a safer option for that intersection.
“Anybody who, lives or works or drives through that area knows, it’s a very busy intersection. so, we’re confident that, roundabout at that location will help, traffic flow through there. particularly at peak times, as well as be safer for all users in that intersection.”
After the underground utility work is over the next phase of construction is expected to start mid-April and finish at the end of October.
