Tight Lines for Troops is looking for more veterans they can take fishing free of charge in their tournament this spring.
The Manistee nonprofit has been holding the event every year since 2010. The tournament is set for May 16 and 17.
Board member Craig Kent said they are hoping to sign up 400 veterans but right now, they have only 300.
They say any veteran interested in the event has until March 1 at midnight to register.
Interested veterans can sign up on the Tight Lines for Troops website.
Kent said it’s open to any Michigan veteran.
“A lot of them don’t have a lot of accessibility. We have volunteers to make sure that anybody of any ability can get on a boat, has access to a boat and can get out. And, there’s a lot of guys that don’t have that opportunity,” said Kent.
Kent said over the years, they’ve taken more that 3,500 veterans fishing.
He said they will be looking for about 200 volunteers who can help with the event, starting in April.
They are still accepting monetary donations as well.
