TRAVERSE CITY - Special Olympics Michigan has their 2025 Special Olympics Winter Games that will be held at the Grand Traverse Resort.
The event starts tomorrow and goes until February 7th, there are over a thousand participants ranging from athletes to coaches to partners and chaperones athletes will be competing in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports. Special Olympics goal is to create an inclusive environment for people with intellectual disabilities to have a community that builds confidence through sports.
“I think really there’s a lot of different things that come to mind when I think about all the athletes that we get to work with on a daily basis,” says Bo Parker, Special Olympics Michigan, “The confidence and like the celebration that they have of a community that’s truly their own is something that always sticks with me in terms of like, this is a place that they are welcomed and truly supported by everyone that’s here.”
The public is welcome to come cheer on the athletes or special Olympics is always looking for volunteers.
