2 dead at Sault Ste. Marie apartment complex, police say

SAULT STE. MARIE - Police in Sault Ste. Marie on Tuesday, Feb. 4, said two people were killed at the Wood Creek Manor Apartments.

Just after 8:30 a.m., multiple law enforcement agencies, along with Sault EMS, responded to a shooting at the apartment complex, which is located just south of the Lake Superior State University campus.

Wood Creek Manor serves residents 62 and older, or those of any age who have disabilities.

Sault Ste. Marie City Police Chief Wes Bierling confirmed to 9&10 that there was no threat to public safety, and no schools went into lockdown.

“We requested assistance from the Michigan State Police crime lab, and they will be helping us investigate this incident,” Bierling said. “We want to get to the bottom of what happened and what transpired and what led to this.”

Bierling said the affected area of the apartment complex was a crime scene and some residents were temporarily relocated.
