Ice fishing competitions hoping to reel in visitors to Cadillac

A pair of fishing competitions are set to take place in Cadillac soon, and there’s still time to be a part of it.

Pilgrim Village Fishing Shop is hosting a speed fishing tournament on Friday January 31st.

The contest starts at 4 pm and ends at 5 pm. It entails one hour of fishing; every ten minutes the whistle will blow, and they move on to a new hole. The largest fish takes all. The location is yet to be determined.

Then on Saturday it’s the North American Snow Festival Ice Fishing Contest. The family friendly event will be giving away prizes for the largest Northern Pike, Walleye, Bluegill, Crappie, and Perch.

Owner Christopher Knaisel said they are looking forward to having a good year since last year wasn’t the best weather for ice fishing.

“It’s much better than last year, it’s still kind of a little bit up and down here in the beginning. all these snowstorms that really slows down the ice making, and then a lot of the rest of the state, they are getting ice, you know, Saginaw Bay got ice for the first time in years. Same with Lake Saint Clair. So, we don’t get as much down state travel as we normally get. But it’s been a pretty good year so far,” said Knaisel.

To register for the speed fishing competition, you can do so at Pilgrim Village or Pizza Plus that’s sponsoring the Friday competition.
