BENZIE COUNTY — Benzie Bus has achieved a record high in annual ridership in 2024 with 112,000 trips.
In a Jan. 21 news release, with an 11% increase in ridership compared to 2023 the achievement marks the highest annual ridership in the system’s history. The growth reflects the increasing dependence of Benzie County residents on public transportation, particularly among older adults and individuals with disabilities.
Executive Director of Benzie Bus Jessica Carland noted the record-breaking tally underscores the critical role Benzie Bus plays in providing reliable, affordable, and accessible transportation to the community.
“This record-breaking year highlights the essential nature of public transit in Benzie County,” Carland said. “We are connecting more people than ever before to vital resources, and this achievement is a testament to our commitment to serving the community.”
Benzie Bus plans to enhance its services in 2025 with the following initiatives:
- Expanding Health Rides to operate 5 days a week
- Increasing evening service to accommodate workers with late shifts
- Introducing Sunday service to enhance weekend mobility
