Hospice of Michigan asks community to volunteer their skills and time

CADILLAC - Hospice of Michigan is in need of volunteers to help support patients and families at several of their locations in Northern Michigan.

Volunteer program director Kathy Lietaert said they are looking for volunteers in locations including Cadillac, Charlevoix, Traverse City, Gaylord and Alpena.

You can help provide comfort to those entering the end of their life by simply having a conversation or even taking photos and videos to preserve their memory for generations to come.

“I think people are apprehensive because you hear the word ‘hospice’ and you think ‘end of life,’ but really you’re just spending time with another human,” said Lietaert. “Read to them, sit in, have a conversation, play music, visit with a pet. There’s so many different ways that you can make a difference.”

Lietaert said their most critical needs now are for volunteers with friendly pets or veterans who can spend time with other veterans in hospice care.
