Cadillac Salvation Army looking for donations to keep people warm during extreme temperatures

The Cadillac Salvation Army is accepting donations for people struggling out in the elements.

Officer in Command, Captain Greg Bock said they’re in need of items like scarves, hats, gloves, socks, and boots.

Bock said they like to keep stocked up on items for anyone stopping by looking for winter gear.

Laurie Moore, a Salvation Army board member, dropped off two bags filled with new coats earlier Monday afternoon.

Moore said now’s a great time to get great deals on winter gear.

“I went to a local store here in town and saw that they had some things on sale, and I’m blessed, and I just wanted to help, where I could. So, I brought a few coats to help those that are in need. I probably waste more money, frivolously than what I should. And, you know, I have a roof over my head, and there’s a lot of people that don’t,” said Moore.

Moore said, even though she’s active on the board, it’s the right thing to do when she’s been blessed with so much.

“My grandson had a hockey game yesterday and went to watch that. And I’m sitting in the arena and I’m chilled and it just hits me. ‘I’m like, why am I complaining about this? I’m indoors. The elements aren’t bad. I might be a little cold, but there’s people out there without a home and without coats. They’re freezing. So, this is the least I can do,” said Moore.

Bock said the Salvation Army staff and volunteers also keep winter items in their vehicles for anyone they run into on the street in need of something warm.
