MANISTEE — At 2:12 p.m. on Jan. 12, the Manistee City Police Department was dispatched to the 900 block of High Street for two people who sustained gunshot wounds.
According to a Jan. 12 news release, upon arrival officers found two people inside the residence with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head.
The subjects were transported to Munson Manistee Hospital where they were pronounced dead. Based on the preliminary investigation, there is no threat to the public.
This is a fluid investigation and the Manistee City Police will continue to investigate with the assistance of the Michigan State Police and Manistee County Sheriffs Department and Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Department of Public Safety.
The victims have been identified as Manistee residents Brett Hail, 61, and Melissa Haik, 68. Both lived at the address of the incident. It has been confirmed that both died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
The investigation is ongoing and there is not believed to be any threat to the public. The Manistee City Police are being assisted by the Michigan State Police, the Manistee County Sheriff, and the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Department of Public Safety.
