CADILLAC--A 2500-dollar grant has been given to Hospice of Michigan by the Cadillac Area Community Foundation to support veterans.
The money will go to the ‘We Honor Veterans’ and ‘Gestures of Grace’ programs.
The grant will support veterans through end-of-life care and also go toward educating staff on how to manage the unique challenges veterans face.
It will also help hospice offer utility bill assistance, transportation and emotional support services for veterans.
Hospice of Michigan says 457 Cadillac area patients were served in 2023.
They say the grant money helps provide honorable end of life care to those who need it.
“What we try to do is focus on providing them their specific needs, kind of creating an environment that they can find solace in and die with some dignity,” said Hospice of Michigan executive director Roxanne Kiesling. This approach ensures that not only do veterans receive the medical care they need, but also the emotional support they need as well.”
The program also provides a special bedside pinning ceremony where veterans are given an honorary pin with their families as a final salute.
