CADILLAC--It’s time to get out your skates and 80’s apparel to help the Cadillac leadership group raise money for their local habitat for humanity branch.
The group, sponsored by the Cadillac Chamber of Commerce, has set a lofty goal of raising $45,000 for a community project named ‘We Build’.
The first of a host of events to raise funds is aimed at families, so all ages can enjoy a fun activity for a cause.
Glow sticks, glow bracelets and glow necklaces will be available for the 80’s themed event.
Chamber coordinator, Victoria Martin said the event will support the leadership group’s 2025 project by bringing them closer to their goal of building a community space.
“Every year we pick a project, which is what the Glow Skate is helping raise money for. This year we’ve partnered with Habitat for Humanity with our together ‘We Build’ project to build a multi-use community building for Habitat to utilize for a wide range of things. Everything from teaching low cost to no cost classes.”
Habitat for Humanity executive director, Amy Gibbs said the event while provide participants with an opportunity to better understand the role Habitat for Humanity plays in Cadillac.
I think it’s going to be super fun. I have not skated in forever, so we’ll see. Hopefully, I stand on my feet, It’s going to be a fun event. We’re excited to see the community support and excited for the glow part of it. This is bringing new people to find out what we do, that have heard our mission and are just hear to support.”
The Glow Skate fundraiser is Saturday from 5 to 7 pm at the Wexford Civic Center.
Participants are asked to bring a $5.00 donation to support the project.
More fundraising events are on the way to support the ‘We Build’ project, one being a comedy show.
Tickets for that will go on sale next week.
