Two people were arrested, including a Michigan Department of Corrections officer, after troopers said they attempted to smuggle drugs into an Eastern Upper Peninsula prison.

Andre Taylor from Clinton Township, a corrections officer on temporary assignment to Kinross Correctional Facility in Chippewa County, and Edward King from Detroit were arrested in December.

A tip led to an investigation involving coordinated traffic stops of the suspect’s vehicles, where Michigan State Police found suspected “K2 paper” (paper infused with the synthetic cannabinoid known as K2), hundreds of suboxone strips, marijuana wax and meth.

Troopers say the value of the items was around $443,000. They also seized $4,592 in cash from Taylor – suspected payment for the drugs.

Taylor’s bond was set at $25,000 and King’s bond at $150,000. Both have posted bond and are expected to be back in court later this month.
