On Sunday, Jan. 5, troopers stopped a Ford Focus that had been reported traveling erratically. They saw the car brake and change speeds as it crossed the fog line and center line several times.

After stopping the car on M-37 near 24 Road in Springville Township, troopers attempted to speak with the driver, 32-year-old Jeffery Allen Sapp from Cadillac.

Troopers said Sapp’s voice was muffled, and they could see he was trying to hide something blue in his mouth. Troopers ordered Sapp to remove the item from his mouth, but said he reached for a juice box to swallow it.

Troopers removed Sapp from the car, but he was able to swallow the item before troopers could remove it. Inside the car, troopers found a blue latex glove containing cocaine. They said Sapp also had over $1,000 hidden inside his sock.

Sapp was taken to a local hospital for treatment and observation after swallowing the unknown item. He was later released and taken to jail.

Sapp was arraigned on one count Possession Cocaine (less than 25 grams) - Second or Subsequent Offense Notice, one count Tampering with Evidence, one count Resisting and Obstructing Police, and Habitual Offender - Fourth Notice. His bond was set at $75,000.
