SAULT STE. MARIE — For the first time since 2019, the Sault International Festival of Races is coming back to Sault Ste. Marie. The last race was held before the pandemic, with about 300 racers participating.
The main event is the 5 Mile Bridge Run that takes runners across the International Bridge to Canada and back to the Lake Superior State University campus.
“It’s kind of the kickoff to the fall. It’s right after the colors start changing. It’s beautiful and you get to run across this great bridge. It’s just exciting to get things back up and running. When the pandemic hit, it kind of tore people right down, and now we are building back up again,” said Linda Hoath, Sault CVB executive director.
This year’s race is Saturday, Sept. 27. The Yooper Running Company will direct and time the event, with the Sault Ste. Marie Convention and Visitors Bureau sponsoring. You do not need a passport to race.
There will also be two small races on Sunday, Sept. 28 that will not cross the international bridge. Click here to sign up.
