Excellence in Education: Roy Davis Jr. from Saint John’s High School

This week’s Michigan Lottery Excellence in Education winner is Roy Davis Jr. from Saint John’s High School. Congratulations.

Thank you very much. This is an honor.

I received a letter from your nominator. I’d like to read a portion of it. He has taught his students how to be responsible and respectful adults. And he’s all done this by showing them that they’re capable of and holding them to that standard. Fast forward ten years from now, you run into a former student. What do you hope that student says to you?

My goal would be them to say, I don’t always remember what you taught me, but I remember how you treated me.

Tell me. For you, who influenced your life? The obvious answer is my mom and dad have amazing parents. They helped build me who I am today. I try to live and testament to what they put into me.

Roy, from Saint John’s High School receives a $2,000 check from Jake Harris with the Michigan Lottery Excellence in Education Awards sponsored by the Michigan Lottery, providing more than $28 billion to public education since 1972.
