LANSING — Michigan’s 15 electoral college votes have been officially awarded to President-elect Donald Trump.

Michigan’s electoral votes were highly sought after this cycle, as a part of the seven battleground states that helped deliver trump the presidency.

Members of other states’ electoral college delegations also met today to award their votes, making official Trump’s win of 312 electoral votes to Vice President Kamala Harris’s 226.

Those votes will head to the US Capitol when they will be certified by Congress on January 6th, 2025.

“President Trump has always had a special place for Michigan and his heart,” said Sen. Aric Nesbitt, R-Porter Twp, who presided over the voting. “We saw it in ’16. We saw it in ’20. We saw it this year. He never gave up on us, and now it’s our job to never give up on him, and that’s what we’re doing here.”

The certification was less chaotic than in previous years, when hundreds of protestors demonstrated at the capitol in 2016.

In 2020, a slate of false Republican electors attempted to enter the building and cast votes for trump.

Those 2020 false electors were charged with forgery last year by Attorney General Dana Nessel. Some of those charged were selected by the Michigan GOP to cast their legitimate votes this year.
