Volunteers brave the snow for the Chippewa Co. Sheriff’s Office food drive

Heavy snow fall in Sault Ste. Marie did not stop the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office from holding its annual food drive.

The Sheriff’s Office once again teamed up with County Commissioner Scott Shackleton for their 26th event to help those in need.

Northern Sand and Gravel, Walmart and Pat’s Foods served as drop-off locations for non-perishable food, frozen hams and turkeys, new toys and of course monetary donations.

Despite the snow, which accumulated to around seven inches, volunteers braved it all to help out the community.

“It is about having fun. We have handed out a bunch of Sheriff sticker-badges to little kids. We have done snow-angels. It’s just a lot of fun. The group here, we were just talking about how this puts us in the Christmas mood,” said Sheriff Mike Bitnar.

All donated items were delivered to the Sault Ste. Marie Salvation Army and will be distributed locally before Christmas.
