BIG RAPIDS — A Northern Michigan shoe manufacturer has some big shoes to fill next year after surpassing it’s goal for Toys for Tots this year – and they are still collecting.
Original Footwear in Big Rapids has been gathering toys and donations for the past few months.
Vice president of manufacturing Deb Mayle said they have already tripled the toys they raised last year, collecting close to 900 compared to 275 last year.
Mayle said most of that was done internally, which speaks volumes to the type of people they have working there
“We’ve always done Toys for Tots. Mary Marzak took over the Toys for Tots campaign this year, and she just went all out. We’re a firm believer in helping the community because we know how tough it is out there, and we want every kid to have a Christmas,” said Mayle. “I am surprised by the the the number of toys. I was pretty sure we would beat our goal just because that’s how the people on the floor are.”
The fundraiser goes through Tuesday, Dec. 10, so there’s still time to drop off a toy at the factory by 2 p.m.
