TRAVERSE CITY — Thanksgiving is days away and the Traverse City Cherry Capital Airport is preparing for travelers heading out of town or coming home for the holiday for one of the busiest days of the year when it comes to airport travel.
Although this is a busy week for travel, the airport sees around 6,000 people per day in the summer. Staff are preparing for possible delays by checking the weather and making sure they are staying in contact with the Federal Aviation Association for any disruptions.
All passengers are encouraged to arrive at the airport early and be patient with other passengers because some have more experience flying than others.
Cherry Capital Airport CEO Kevin Klein discussed how passengers can prepare for travel ahead of the holidays including double-checking all items before going through security to make sure they are within the Transportation Security Administration’s guidelines.
“Check what’s in your bags,” Klein said. “What I mean by that is it’s been hunting season, so everybody (could have) things in their bags that have been out hunting. Double-check what’s in your bag to make sure it’s not a prohibited item. Everybody talks about, ‘Can I bring a pie through? Can I bring peanut butter through? Can I bring a gel or jam or something like that through?’ I refer everybody to the website at tsa.gov, and yes, a lot of those things you can bring through.”
Klein also suggested downloading the TSA app for whatever airline you fly to keep up to date on your flight - where your luggage is and any delays
