Harrison man killed after being hit by pickup while walking on shoulder of Mead Road

ROSCOMMON COUNTY - Michigan State Police said a Harrison pedestrian was killed after being hit by a pickup truck.

On Nov. 17 at 5:43 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Houghton Lake Post were sent to a report of a man lying in the roadway on Mead Road near the US-127 overpass in Lake Township.

Troopers found a 54-year-old Harrison man lying dead in the roadway, they said. A preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle had recently struck the man, who had been walking west on the shoulder of Mead Road, and then fled the scene, troopers said.

Shortly after initiating the investigation, troopers witnessed the driver of a pickup truck pull up to the scene, they said. Based on evidence collected at the scene, it was believed the driver of the pickup truck is the person who struck the pedestrian, they said.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 66-year-old man from Houghton Lake, was cooperative with law enforcement and consented to a voluntary blood-draw at an area hospital, they said. The investigation is ongoing.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Lake Township Fire Department and Gerrish Township Police Department.
