CADILLAC — United Way of Northwest Michigan is looking for more volunteers to help rake seniors’ yards.
They’ve started their second “Rake a Difference” campaign with local Commissions on Aging across their nine-county region.
The campaign helps keep seniors’ yards looking good, and safe for them. Unraked leaves can cause slip-and-fall accidents, encourage pests and even damage foundations during winter.
With 75 lawns and only 30 teams, United Way said they’ll take all the help they can get.
“For a lot of senior citizens in this region, it’s just a little bit difficult for them to be able to age in place and for their homes to be ready for winter,” said Seth Johnson, president/CEO of United Way of Northwest Michigan. “This is just helping seniors be able to stay in their home longer and also be able to protect the value of their home.”
