After 15 years in the making, the Dragon trail at Hardy Dam is now open to the public. With a tireless effort from the community and the Consumer’s Energy team this 45-mile-long looping trail with consist of 11 segments encircling the 4,000 acre Hard Pond reservoir.
The newly finished Dragon will traverse both Mecosta and Newaygo counties while passing through 5 county parks, 3 township parks, and the Newaygo state park, which all include day-use parks, marinas, and five public campgrounds between them.
With over 100,000 visitors expected over the next year, this adventurous natural attraction will provide a needed boost to the local economies while also providing a great trail for local residents. This trail is non-motorized, multi-use trail system encircling Hardy Dam and will be maintained by volunteers from the West Michigan Mountain Biking Alliance.
