MASON COUNTY — The Mason County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that a person was killed in a crash this week.
On Wednesday at 2:07 p.m., emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash with the vehicle reportedly on fire, deputies said. The crash took place on Sugar Grove Road west of Stephens Road in Mason County’s Sherman Township.
Preliminary findings suggest the driver - Shari Nott, 59, of Fountain, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle - was westbound on Sugar Grove Road traveling at high speed when she lost control and ran off the north side of the road, deputies said. The vehicle then rolled several times, catching fire and ejecting the driver.
The woman did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at Corewell Health Ludington Hospital, deputies said.
Custer Fire, Fountain Fire & Rescue, MSP-Hart Post and Life EMS all responded and assisted Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office crash reconstruction team.
