Elk Rapids storm chaser in Florida as Milton approaches

A storm chaser from Northern Michigan is in the Tampa area right now as Milton prepares to make landfall.

Shawn Kellogg from Elk Rapids usually chases tornados in the Midwest but headed to Florida to help a family friend as the storm approached.

He says rain and wind could be seen and felt this afternoon as Milton approached on Wednesday.

Kellogg also told us a number of resources are in the area to help with what will likely be a long recovery.

“Breathing a little sigh of relief for Tampa, in fact we’re enroute to go to the bay itself which might actually drain out based off the current path. A lot’s going to change in the next couple of hours which is why it’s safe to be out here, you see the background, trees are barely moving yet,” said Kellogg.

Kellogg says there are some parts of the Florida Gulf still have piles of debris that haven’t been cleaned up from Hurricane Helene.
