Time to fall into seasonal activities at Jacob's Farm

TRAVERSE CITY - Now that we’re well into the fall, families are ready to get out and enjoy the activities that come with the season.

“The best explanation I get to is a Norman Rockwell painting. You have all these different generations that are on the property from the youngest to the great grandparents that are here, all enjoying it at the same time, coming in with the music and food and drinks and just being able to spend time, not having to have an urgency of having to leave,” says Ed Blackburn, Jacobs Farm Operations Manager.

Jacob’s farm started in 1892. Now the fourth generation is running the operation. It originally was a cattle farm and the farm were opened up to the public to sustain itself.

“Fortunately for our season, we’re done at the end of October, so you only have to be on this weekend and three more weekends to enjoy Jacob’s farm,” says Blackburn.

Here at the farm, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy. From apple, u-picking to the corn maze to even picking out your own pumpkin. It will give the family pumpkin to talk about.

“The pumpkins are, you know, the signal, you know, they’re the signal feature of fall that everybody is pumpkins,” explains Blackburn.

And while the pumpkins may be the star of the show - there is one event at Jacob’s Farm that will get you ready for Halloween.

“We have the corn maze, which is ten acres of u-pick corn. The theme behind that is a circus. So, on October 26th, we do a thriller night, which we have scary people out there and generally is a big draw. People love that. It’s a one-time thing that we do, or the workshops let all the spirits come out of the barn and they invade the corn and go after people in there,” shares Blackburn.
