BELLAIRE — The Antrim Commission on Aging hosted a senior fishing day at the Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility Pond in Bellaire.
The Commission on Aging partnered with the Bellaire Conservation Club, who stock the pond with trout in the spring. The club teaches kids about fishing in the spring at their annual kid’s fish day, but there are usually leftover trout. Instead of leaving them in the pond, they welcomed the residents of Meadowbrook to come out and cast a line.
“The seniors still like to get out and fish. You know, everybody likes fish and it’s something that, you know, not everybody has access to a boat or where they can fish from a lake. So, it’s just we’re sharing our extra fish with seniors,” Eldon McPherson, President Bellaire Conservation Club.
Thursday was the last day for the seniors to head out and fish, and afterwards they got to enjoy a trout dinner.
