Michigan Red Cross volunteers among those helping with Hurricane Helene disaster relief

Michigan volunteers with the American Red Cross are helping people impacted by Hurricane Helene.

Latoysa Rooks, the regional disaster officer for the American Red Cross, Michigan region, said a team of more than a dozen volunteers and three disaster vehicles are already in the affected areas in Florida, making sure people have access to resources and medical supplies.

Rooks said the volunteers left before the storm hit, so they could get to work right away.

The Red Cross said they are always in need of more volunteers and blood for this disaster and others that happen nationwide.

“We have approximately 20 volunteers who are down in various parts of Florida. We’re making sure that people have a safe place to stay, that their bellies are full, and then they know that help is on the way,” said Rooks.

The American Red Cross said if you’d like to help financially, make sure you donate directly redcross.org to avoid any scams.
