ALPENA COUNTY — On Sept. 6, troopers from the Michigan State Police Alpena Post were sent to Rockport State Park for a report of a larceny from a fishing boat.

The owner had left his commercial fishing boat and a smaller boat tied to a cement pier overnight. When he and his crew returned the following morning, they noticed the small boat’s outboard motor, a generator and other gear had been stolen, troopers said.

The troopers began searching online ads and found the outboard had been sold on Facebook Marketplace.

They recovered the outboard from the buyer, who did not know the motor was stolen, troopers said.

Further investigation led to the identification of the suspect, 25-year-old Hunter Lee Lane from Ossineke, troopers said. A search warrant was executed at this residence and several other stolen items were recovered, they reported.
