HOUGHTON LAKE — It’s homecoming season at area schools, and a Houghton Lake nonprofit is helping to make the special night less stressful.
Princess Project loans out formal dresses to teens in need, making outfits that often only get worn once much more affordable. With about 400 dresses available, there’s no lack of choices and styles available for more than just dances.
Laura Halsey, the nonprofit’s founder, said the reaction from the teens makes it all worthwhile.
“I like to see the girls smile. I wanted to give that that memory that they have, to be able to do prom and feel like a princess. We had some girls in here Saturday, and just listening to them giggle and laugh, it was heartwarming, it really was,” said Halsey.
Laura said anyone from Northern Michigan is welcome to come check out the dresses or donate. Princess Project is located next to Laura’s store, Laura’s Needful Items, downtown.
