Residents and businesses in Traverse City requested to suspend irrigation

TRAVERSE CITY — Residents and businesses are being requested to temporarily suspend irrigation by the City of Traverse City Department of Municipal Utilities.

According to a Sept. 16 news release the suspension request is active from Sept. 16-18 and is a measure necessary due to ongoing transmission water main reconstruction work related to the US-31 MDOT Grandview Parkway project.

As part of this work, a major transmission water main that provides service will need to be shut down for a half-day on two consecutive days to complete the required connections between the new and existing water mains.

Additionally, with higher temperatures expected, conserving water is even more important.

This precautionary measure is greatly appreciated in helping us maintain an adequate water supply for residents and emergency services throughout these shutdown periods.

“We sincerely thank you for your cooperation and patience as we work to improve our City’s infrastructure,” the release said.

Please contact the Water/Wastewater Maintenance Division at 231-922-4923 if you have any questions or concerns regarding the work.
