OCEANA COUNTY - On Sept. 14 at 3:31 p.m., Oceana County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a call for a motorcycle versus car accident on 18th Avenue near the entrance to the Fox Barn near Silver Lake.
The crash involved a 50-year-old Manistee man and 59-year-old Mears woman.
The Manistee man was driving a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle south on 18th Avenue when he attempted to pass the vehicle ahead of him in a no-passing zone, deputies said. As the motorcycle driver was attempting to pass the driver of the car, the car made a left turn into the parking lot at the Fox Barn, and the motorcycle struck the car, deputies said.
The driver of the car was not injured in the crash, deputies said.
The driver of the motorcycle suffered significant injuries and was taken by Life EMS to Trinity Health-Shelby Campus to intercept with AeroMed, who took him to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, deputies said.
Deputies do not believe alcohol or drugs to be any factor in this accident.
The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by Mason-Oceana 911, Life EMS, Shelby-Benona Fire Department and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
