LAKE CITY — Celebrate Michigan’s Christmas tree and lumbering industries this weekend at Festival of the Pines in Lake City.
The forestry industry has deep roots in Northern Michigan, and many communities continue to thrive as a result. Producing millions of Christmas trees, Missaukee County is touted as the Christmas tree capital of the world.
Festival of the Pines brings attention to the history and importance while adding lots of fun with games, food and the Prince & Princess of the Pines contest.
“Many people are excited. It’s nice to have the lumberjacks back and it’s nice that it’s also homecoming week, so the local kids are excited about that. It’s just a very exciting weekend,” said Samantha Peery, Missaukee Area Chamber of Commerce director.
Festival of the Pines runs Friday, Sept. 20 to Sunday, Sept. 22.
