On Thursday evening, Leelanau County deputies were called to South Lake Leelanau Drive in Bingham Township for a report of someone intentionally destroying property.

While talking to the person who called in the report, the suspect – a Traverse City woman who deputies said appeared to be under the influence – came back to the scene in her car.

When deputies tried to talk to the woman, they said she argued with them and told them she wouldn’t cooperate. They said she even warned them she was going to take off and they would have to chase her.

According to deputies, they tried to get the woman out of the car but the confrontation turned physical. During the struggle, she got the car in drive and deputies were forced to back off. They said she rammed their patrol car with hers before driving off, but their car still worked and they were able to follow her.

Deputies said the woman sped down the road and ultimately crashed, rolling her car. Fire and Rescue personnel helped deputies get her out of the car, and she was taken to the hospital.

She’s being charged with Operating While Intoxicated - Third Offense, Resisting and Obstructing, Malicious Destruction of Police Property, and Fleeing and Eluding.
