LEELANAU COUNTY — The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office shared a video on their Facebook page of what can happen when drivers are impaired or go too fast.
The video depicts a pickup truck driving straight into Omena Bay, perhaps initially mistaking the dock as a road. Scroll down to see the video.
The sheriff’s office said the driver was not injured, but they were arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated.
The Facebook post read:
As summer quickly comes to an end, The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind drivers that paying full attention to the road as you drive is of the utmost importance. Speed, alcohol and drug use are not things that usually end well when you are behind the wheel.
The video depicted took place on Friday, August 16, 2024 in the Village of Omena, Leelanau Twp. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of this incident and the driver was subsequently lodged for Operating While Intoxicated. A report has been forwarded to the Leelanau County Prosecutor for review.
