SAULT STE. MARIE — The victim of the fire was identified as a Sault Ste. Marie resident, officials said Tuesday.
Firefighters were sent to the scene at 11:18 p.m. Monday night. When they arrived, heavy fire was coming from the structure and spreading to neighboring houses, fire officials said.
Sault Ste. Marie Fire Chief Ed Miller said nobody was home in the neighboring houses.
“Old houses are always a challenge, there’s a lot of modifications through the years,” Miller said. “The fire had a good head start on us, and it was a lot to make sure we extinguish it fully.”
