McBain hit-and-run suspect pleads guilty for failure to stop and lying to an officer

MCBAIN — A man from McBain has pleaded guilty to a hit-and-run crash from last winter that seriously injured a woman.

Missaukee County Circuit Court documents show Peter Dekam pleaded guilty to failure to stop at the scene of a serious personal injury accident and for lying to an officer. A charge of tampering with evidence was dismissed.

On Dec. 18, 2023, deputies were called to Stoney Corners in McBain after a 51-year-old woman was hit getting out of her car. Deputies say she was getting out to check on another driver who had gone off the road due to snowy conditions.

The woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Dekam will be sentenced Aug. 16.

MCBAIN — The Missaukee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect in connection with Dec. 18′s hit-and-run.

Peter Dekam from McBain is charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing serious injury or death, tampering with evidence, and lying to a peace officer.

MCBAIN — The Missaukee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help identifying a driver involved in a hit-and-run that happened on Monday around 4:25 p.m. in McBain.

Deputies were called to Stoney Corners west of Cherry Street in McBain on Monday. They say it all started when a car went into the ditch due to snowy roads. A 51-year-old McBain woman stopped to check on the driver.

Deputies say she was standing next to her car when another car driving east hit her. The driver didn’t stop.

The woman was taken to Cadillac Munson with serious injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office says the suspected car was a black 2020-2022 GMC Denali pickup truck. The vehicle will have damage to the passenger headlight and fender area.
