GLADWIN COUNTY — More information about an alleged murder that happened over the weekend in Gladwin County has been released.
The Sheriff’s Office is releasing the identity of the person killed in an overnight shooting and more details on what led up to the shooting.
Gladwin County Sheriff, Michael Shea, said that the victim of the shooting that happened in the early morning hours of Saturday at a home on Howard Road in Grout Township has been identified as 59-year-old Dale McLaughlin, Senior of Gladwin.
The victim and the suspect, 53-year-old Terry Verhelle, knew each other and lived at the residence.
Shea said some sort of argument led up to McLaughlin being shot and Verhelle was the one that called in the shooting.
“Our deputies arrived on scene, found one individual shot through his abdomen or torso area. The suspect is the fiancée of the victim’s sister and so the two are not quite related yet, but would have been had this incident not occurred,” said Shea.
The suspect is under arrest and lodged at the county jail facing manslaughter and weapons charges. The shooting remains under investigation.
Shea said murders in their county are usually rare, but this is the 2nd homicide the Gladwin Sheriff’s Department has had to investigate this year.
