Winter Storm Warning:
For Luce County in effect from midnight tonight until 8PM Friday.
- Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 5 and11 inches. Locally higher amounts in excess of a foot possible along and north of M-28. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
Winter Storm Watch:
For Emmet, Cheboygan, Western Chippewa, Central Chippewa, Southeast Chippewa, Western Mackinac, Eastern Mackinac, Mackinac Island/BoisBlanc Island, Beaver Island and surrounding islands in effect from this evening until Friday evening.
- Heavy snow and blowing snow possible. Total snow accumulations between 7 and 11 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.
High Wind Watch:
For Mason, Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, and Isabella counties in effect from late tonight until Friday evening.
- Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible.
Today: Spotty North
A spotty chance of snow will continue in the Upper Peninsula for the rest of the day.
For those in the Lower Peninsula, we will see more mostly to partly cloudy throughout the day.
Highs are in the mid-20s to upper 30s.
Winds are from the Northwest at 12-22 mph.
Tonight: Snow System Moves In
Heading off to bed to mostly cloudy skies.
After midnight, a system will move in.
Starting in the Upper Peninsula with some heavy snow band moving in.
Northern Lower will feature more scattered snow.
In the Central Lower, we start with isolated mixed showers.
Lows are in the mid-teens to low 30s, which occur around midnight, then warm a few degrees.
Winds are strong from the S/SE at 15-30+.
Friday: Scattered Snow
This clipper system continues into Friday morning.
Bringing in the some heavy band for the U.P. and Tip of the Mitt for the morning hours.
Areas from the U.P. and snowbelts could look at over 6″. More around 7-10″+.
N. Lower looking more around a general 3-6″. Some mixing south and 1-3 for our central zones at this time.
Highs Friday in the 30s near 40 south.
Winds Friday will also be breezy again with this clipper system. Blowing snow is likely.
By the evening hours, we start to see better breaks of snowfall.
Overnight skies are drier with lows in the low teens to mid-20s.
Weekend: Possible Significant Wintry System, Colder
Saturday is the pick day of the weekend, with drier skies.
Mostly to partly cloudy skies are doing to be around.
Highs Saturday from the mid 20s to mid 30s.
Yet even another system will be on the table for Sunday into Monday as another snow/mix.
Depending on the track, we could be looking at some big impacts from this storm.
What we are seeing now, will feature snow, ice, and rain.
Highs Sunday are still trending colder from the upper 20s to upper 30s.
Winds will be strong with Sunday’s system too. More blowing snow and low visibility.
Overnight lows this weekend will dip back into the teens and 20s. Even a few single digits farther north.
Next Week: Colder
This system is expected to stick around for Monday morning.
This is going to make for treacherous morning commute for most of the region.
Lake effect snow will follow this system, with gusty nds.
Highs Monday from the mid teens to mid 20s.
Some lake effect snow showers for St. Patrick’s Day and Wednesday.
Colder for the holiday with highs in the mid teens to mid 20s.
