It’s becoming a huge problem here in Northern Michigan. Rescues and shelters all over our area are at capacity, but pet abandonment is at record highs.

When Laura and Russ’s neighbor in Manistee was evicted and moved away, they left behind roughly 60 cats. The couple knew they had to do something to help.

A pet rescue was able to come in and get the cats out of the home, but they still needed veterinarian care and new families. Laura and Russ decided to foster about 30 of those, which they’re paying for out of their own pockets.

A local veterinarian volunteered their time and expertise to rehab the cats so they could be put up for adoption. All 30 cats have been:

  • Spayed or neutered
  • Updated on all shots
  • Treated for fleas and ticks
  • Groomed and rehabilitated

Although these sweet cats had a rough start to life, none of them are feral. If you are interested in adoption, fostering, or donating to help these animals find loving forever homes, please visit Laura Danks’ Facebook page.
