TRAVERSE CITY — Monday was National Dog Day, and Cherryland Humane Society in Traverse City is encouraging those searching for a dog to look at the humane society before heading to a breeder.

“It’s National Dog Day, but I feel like here at Cherryland Humane Society we celebrate that kind of thing every day. We have a lot of dogs looking for forever homes, a lot of dogs that have been overlooked for nearly a year,” said Naomi Pobuda, communications and marketing manager. “They just love unconditionally, and it’s hard to feel lonely when you have a dog in your home.”
